Biography

Virgil Riley Runnels Jr., profesyonel güreş tarihinin en ikonik ve sevilen figürlerinden biri olan "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, 12 Ekim 1945 tarihinde Austin, Teksas'ta dünyaya gelmiştir. West Texas State Üniversitesi'nde futbol oynadığı yılların ardından spora olan ilgisini güreşe yönelten Runnels, 1960'ların sonunda profesyonel kariyerine başladı. İlk yıllarında Dick Murdoch ile kurduğu "The Texas Outlaws" takımıyla sert bir stil sergilese de, onu efsaneleştiren asıl dönem 1970'ler ve 80'lerde National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) bünyesinde yaşandı.

Ric Flair'in temsil ettiği gösterişli ve zengin yaşam tarzının tam zıttı olarak, işçi sınıfını ve halkı temsil eden "The Common Man" (Sıradan Adam) karakteriyle milyonların kahramanı oldu. Mirasını oğulları Dustin Rhodes (Goldust) ve Cody Rhodes sürdürmektedir. 2007 yılında WWE Hall of Fame sınıfına dahil edilmiştir.

Aktör, 11 Haziran 2015 tarihinde böbrek yetmezliği ile mücadele ettiği sırada evinde düşmesi sonucu gelişen komplikasyonlar nedeniyle 69 yaşında hayatını kaybetmiştir.
