Christopher Lee
Biography
Lee'nin kaderi, 1957 yapımı "Frankenstein'ın Laneti" (The Curse of Frankenstein) filminde Canavar'ı canlandırmasıyla değişti. Ancak onu dünya çapında bir korku ikonuna dönüştüren rol, 1958 yapımı "Dracula" filmindeki Kont Dracula performansı oldu. Bram Stoker'ın efsanevi vampirini defalarca canlandıran Lee, zarif ama korkutucu tarzıyla karaktere derinlik kattı. Bu dönemde en yakın dostu ve sık sık rol arkadaşı olan Peter Cushing ile birlikte korku sinemasının altın çağını tanımladılar. "Mumya" (The Mummy) (1959) ve "Rasputin: The Mad Monk" (1966) gibi filmlerdeki performanslarıyla "kötü adam" rollerinin aranan ismi oldu.
Korku türünün dışına çıkmak isteyen Lee, 1970'lerde kült klasik "Gizemli Ada" (The Wicker Man) (1973) filminde Lord Summerisle rolüyle kariyerinin en iyi performanslarından birini sergiledi. Ayrıca, kuzeni Ian Fleming'in yarattığı James Bond serisinin "Altın Tabancalı Adam" (The Man with the Golden Gun) (1974) filminde Bond'un düşmanı Francisco Scaramanga'yı canlandırdı. Kariyeri boyunca 250'den fazla filmde rol alarak Guinness Rekorlar Kitabı'na giren Lee, 1998 yapımı "Jinnah" filminde Pakistan'ın kurucusu Muhammed Ali Cinnah'ı canlandırarak bu rolü kariyerinin en önemli işi olarak tanımladı.
2000'li yıllarda, kariyerinin ikinci baharını yaşayan Lee, yeni nesil izleyicilerle devasa yapımlar aracılığıyla buluştu. Peter Jackson'ın "Yüzüklerin Efendisi" (The Lord of the Rings) ve "Hobbit" serilerinde, J.R.R. Tolkien ile bizzat tanışmış tek oyuncu olarak büyücü Saruman'ı canlandırdı. George Lucas'ın "Yıldız Savaşları" (Star Wars) öncül üçlemesinde (Episode II ve III) Sith Lordu Kont Dooku rolüyle bir başka ikonik kötü adama hayat verdi. Ayrıca yönetmen Tim Burton'ın favori oyuncularından biri olarak "Hayalet Süvari" (Sleepy Hollow), "Charlie'nin Çikolata Fabrikası" ve "Ölü Gelin" gibi filmlerde yer aldı. İlerleyen yaşına rağmen heavy metal müziğe olan tutkusuyla albümler çıkaran ve 2009 yılında "Sir" unvanı alan sanatçı, sanat dünyasının en saygın figürlerinden biriydi. Efsanevi aktör, 7 Haziran 2015 tarihinde solunum sorunları ve kalp yetmezliği nedeniyle 93 yaşında hayatını kaybetmiştir.
